Root Canal Treatment
What is a root canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. Root canal therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. Drs. Kinra and DeKock use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

Endodontic Presentation
To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic therapy, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canals are discussed.
What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will a root canal cost?
The cost associated with root canals can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

I was very nervous and couldn't sleep the night before. The Dr. said that the worst part was the numbing with the needle. Not sure if it made sense, but she was very gentle with the needle. After that I was much calmer and almost fell asleep during the procedure. Except for a little tooth ache because of the procedure, I didn't feel any pain or discomfort after. The Dr. and the staff were excellent. If I ever need another root canal, I would definitely go back.

I don't like needles in my mouth...never have in any of my 70 years, so when my dentist sent me to Dr. Kinra for a root canal I can't say that I was really looking forward to it. However, once I got to their office I found the staff so pleasant and so willing to listen AND answer any of the many questions I had that I forgot about thinking of the actual procedure and any worries. And as far as the procedure itself, and I have had root canals before, this was the fastest and most PAIN-FREE root canal I've ever had. Even the initial pain-numbing shots which I always feared, were barely felt! Dr. Kinra and his assistant talked me through everything they were going to do and mentioned again each time they were just about to do something. I ALWAYS knew what they were doing and how I was coming along. And when it was done, I could hardly believe it was over. I would definitely recommend this office and doctor to anyone. Also, having been an automotive design engineer, failures analyst, and end-of-test engine evaluator for 44 years, I was quite impressed with the high tech equipment available for use in this office which, I'm sure, greatly helped the doctor in what he needed to do. My thanks to everyone there.

Absolutely the best kind of people. Everyone is nice, more than competent. On time. Least amount of pain involved and had one of the best dental family in Florida. Happy to say it believe I have found the same kind of people here. They put you at ease when you’re in excruciating pain, fix you up and out the door. And did I say, they’re nice. Saw Dr. Dekock for both rootcanals
